What’s Your Poison?

So The Safety Elephanthas ordered a review of the decision to downgrade cannabis, as new studies suggest a strong link between the drug and mental illness.

Can a review into alcohol and the strong link between the drug and violence be far behind? And will we get one into tobacco and the strong link between the drug and cancer, heart disease and chronic lung disease?

Of course not. It’s an election year, dummy. The review of the cannabis downgrade is another sop to Daily Mail readers who think all pot smokers are soap dodgers on their way to fast becoming knife-wielding maniacs.

But in doing so, the Government merely panders to the far-right, blue rinse brigade who are never going to vote New Labour, while systematically alienating a section of those who might.
