Well, I picked the worst weekend to to take an unauthorised absence, didn’t I?

Blair leaking on live television, persons unknown leaking and leaking to the press, and Admiral Sir Michael Boyce, the former Chief of the Defence Staff, saying that if he’s brought down by any challenge to the legality of the Iraq war Blair will be there to break his fall.

And then, to add insult to injury, Blair himself waits until I’m out of town before sneaking into Hove to rally the troops. Not that I, a mere voter, would have got anywhere near him. The heady musk of power without purpose is not for the likes of me but it would have been fun to go down and press my nose up against the glass.

In other news, I was very taken with Gary Younge’s piece in the Guardian yesterday that managed to encapsulate everything I’ve felt about the threats, insults, emotional blackmail and scare tactics that have been brought to bear on those of us decadent enough to feel that someone should be held accountable for the horrible deaths of tens of thousands of people we’ve never met in a country to which we’ve never been.

Blogger permitting, I’ll be covering the election results live here on Thursday evening. How long I stick at it depends on the results of the exit poll due to be announced shortly after 10pm. A prediction of an 80+ seat majority for New Labour will see me take to my bed in a sulk early doors.
