GE05 LIVE: 04:15 - Lights out
Time for me to retire. My kids are going to be up in the next two or three hours so I need to grab at least a little sleep.
Thanks to everybody who came here tonight and gave their time and insight. I’m incredibly flattered that so many people chose my site on which to express themselves. I’m sorry that I couldn’t offer the articulacy. If anybody who left comments tonight wants to drop me a email and tell me about their blogs (if you have one), I’d gladly give you a link.
It’s been a strange night - definitely a memorable night. Reg Keys’ speech in Sedgefield was the standout moment for me. And it looks like the slashing of New Labour’s majority might be a boost to our democracy. We can only hope.
Anyway, the proper analysis can wait until tomorrow. Thanks again to everyone who spent their election night here.
Just because I’m going to bed doesn’t mean everybody else has to - feel free to carry on if you’re still around.
Cheers!
PS: Sarah Teather has held Brent East for the Lib Dems. A nice note to retire on.
PPS: Even Michael Howard being returned can’t spoil my kip.

Galloway “This is for Iraq”
Umm, if you’re running FOR iraq rather than for Britain shouldn’t you be like 30 degrees east and 10 degrees south? Not good with the compass is Gorgeous George.
Thanks again Justin. I’m dropping you an email.
I too was very happy to see that Labour less of a majority. Maybe it will mean more democracy, more plurality. I am a Marxist, but was happy to see Labour not having such a majority. Here in America, our goal, our dream is for a party based on the trade unions and workers. How the New Labour has gone and undone so many public gains, bowed to imperialism, and just become a mirror image of the Tories is sad. May now they’ll wake up. So all and all, i’d say this is the best that we could have hoped for.
