He still just doesn’t get it, does he?

Blair: “I know that Iraq has been a deeply divisive issue … I also know and believe that after this election people want to move on.”

Move on? There’s been plenty of people moving on in Iraq today. On to another plane of existence. And Blair just wants to sweep the bodies under the carpet after having “listened and learned”.

I’m starting a new count today: The Official “Move On From” and “Draw A Line Under” Iraq Count. Expect the repetition ad nauseum from our betters to start today.

UPDATE: Yet more people moving on and shuffling off (this mortal coil, that is).

I don’t want to say “I told you so” but the day before polling day I predicted that “He will urge the country to “move on” from the divisions of the past”. Mind you, it didn’t take a genius to predict that, though, did it?

The Iraq MoveOn Count could catch on, I reckon, especially if some clever script is produced to use on our blogs.

It’s SO new Labour: like Rafiki’s reductioad absurdum in the Lion King when he bonks simba on the head “it’s in the past, it doesn’t matter!” I’m all for progress and the future, but I prefer modifying the past and building from it, not just sweeping it away in adulation of the new. Old legs good. New legs better.

    From The Skakagrall:

    The ‘Three-and-Six Government’

THe BBC is currently attributing 35.2% of the popular vote in the general election to Labour. I believe this is the UK vote, rather than the British, which may be 36 percent.

This is the lowest winning popular vote in British history.

I have checked back to 1832 and I can’t find any other figures so low, even for hung parliaments.

Elections from 1979 to 2001 were all won by 42 to 43 percent of the vote. The two 1974 elections were won with 39.2 and 37.9 perecntages respectively. The only other low figures were in the 1920s, and I think involved coalition governments (I must check this). Otherwise there are no cases of parties taking power with so little support.

Let me point out the obvious. 36 per cent is not a popular mandate.

I’m happy to see that the people of the UK turned out and showed their support for the Labour Party and Tony Blair. Without the UK’s support, Iraq might not grow into the violent-free nation that people yearn for. With the UK’s support, a free Iraq will be a leader in the Mid-East and around the world.

British exit polls: Blair loses Sedgefield to Reg Keys

British Prime Minister is set to lose his seat in the Parliament to a slain British soldier’s father, according exit polls that showed an easy win for the anti-war challenger.

The PressEsc exit poll of voters who have cast their ballots gave 56% of the vote to Reg Keys, the independent candidate representing the organisation Military Families Against War.

Tony Blair only managed to garner 22% of the vote with the remaining split between the other candidates, most of whom supported Reg Keys candidacy.

But there are growing fears that the official results in Sedgefield may not reflect the people’s wishes following the vote-rigging scandal that broke out in the constituency.

A police investigation into more than 600 complaints of postal vote fraud was dropped on order from the “top”, one Durham Constabulary whistleblower alleged.

A KEY marginal was at the centre of a - vote-rigging probe yesterday.

Labour’s Anne Begg held the redrawn seat of Aberdeen South, one of the Lib Dems’ top targets, but her majority was slashed from 3931 to 1348

Let’s just hope that “Move On” doesn’t refer to Syria, Iran, North Korea…..
