Telegraph: Green farming plan ‘in chaos over software’

The Government’s flagship environmental farming scheme, which is meant to be transforming the landscape, has collapsed into chaos because the software does not work, say farmers’ leaders.

Margaret Beckett, the Environment Secretary, said: “This is not proceeding as we would wish and we are working very hard to resolve it. Tell me an IT scheme in the Government or the private sector that has been introduced without problems.”

Defra officials were unable to give the cost of the software. The figure was “commercially confidential”.
