Ideas are bulletproof
“If our own government was responsible for the deaths of 100,000 people, would you really want to know?”
Movie adaptations of comic books are always a let-down and trailers these days are front-loaded with all the best bits to lure gullible moviegoers to the multiplexes.
But Blimey! did I get goosebumps watching the trailer for V For Vendetta. It looks like they may have actually read the book and not just tossed it out of the window like they did with all the other Alan Moore adaptations.
It’s tempting fate I know, but I don’t think CRACCA are going to be picketing this one.

Justin: I really hope you’re right, but the signs aren’t good:

Scroll down a bit to see a review of a draft script. It seems like much of the subtlety and power have been removed. I’ll still see it, but it isn’t going to be the comic book.
Jesus. That sounds pretty bad.
Suckered by a trailer again and it was such a good one as well. No doubt put together to include all the iconic imagery from the book to reel in the credulous fanboy.
Hollywood hates us.
It might be just about worthy. Perhaps Watchmen will be too. Or they could be a pile of Constantine…
I’m with you - if the trailer’s indicative, I’m looking forward to it.
The worst bit, for me, is replacing the intro. Moving from Shakespeare to that stupid alliterative ‘V’ speech is just crass.
I was going to post about it, but I didn’t want to tempt fate and leave hostages to fortune by saying what you have
The narrow column cuts off the link Andrew posted, but I do recall reading that there have been a couple of earlier scripts floating round of which the version they’re filming is technically a rewrite, but have nothing to do it.
However, I do worry that they’ve put all the scenes from the graphic novel in the early trailer to keep the fans happy and that the other 90+ minutes is just a mess of new and altered stuff.
But I’m not calling the CRACCA troops out yet, especially having just got round to seeing Batman Begins which was rather good and with a few Year One references.
Andrew’s link here.
I’m biting the bullet and taking my five year-old to see Fantastic Four next week. It’s had mixed reviews but I don’t hold out much hope. Will report back with the true horror of it all.
there was talk of the movie release being pulled on worries (valid or otherwise) about too many scenes featuring bombing London. Perhaps the release of trailer means those worries ahve been overcome
