Back…

…from the wilderlands with nothing much to say. One or two things may appear later this week including a mathematical formula that encapsulates my attitude towards this bloody time of year.

There is one thing. If the person in Slough who found Chicken Yoghurt today by entering “can i leave a child of 10 at home alone” into Yahoo Search should find their way back here, can I just say: No, you can’t. Please don’t.

Yes you can, I was and never burnt the house down or starved to death, give the young one some credit and get down the pub.

Similar to our ubiquitous friend ‘Anonymous’, I was occasionally at home without parental supervision at that age. Not for long periods of time but, say, on coming home from school with my parents not back from work yet.

Really, we need to be a bit more sensible about this and draw a distinction between 12 year olds being left for weeks while parents are on holiday and the occasional times when children not under constant paranoid adult supervision.

I am 10 , and I home alone right now, reading blogs and surfing for porn with my dad’s credit card (well, if he will leave it lying around).

Now if you will excuse me, I’ve left my crack pipe burning a hole in the welsh dresser.

Kid’s these days don’t get nearly enough exercise, which is why I much prefer letting my 10 year old walk the streets alone, rather than being cooked-up at home watching telly, or playing computer games behind locked doors.

Well I think you’re all neglectful bastards and I’m calling social services. I remember what kind of evil I used to get up to aged 10 when there wasn’t a pair of eyes on me. Plus I was quite weedy and needed the back-up, emotionally and physically. Kids that age should be hand-cuffed to a burly minder.

My girls will not be left in, or leave, the house on their own until they’re 25 and only then if accompanied by a ravening, slavering, barely trained Rottweiler that has been in-bred to the point of murderous insanity.

Anybody know where I can get a couple?

    Girls or Rottweilers?

I notice, however, that the post that was thrown up on Yahoo was entitled:

“Leave them alone and they’ll come home, wagging their tails behind them ”

Maybe there’s a message there, too?
