The Bush administration has scaled back its ambitions to rebuild Iraq from the devastation wrought by war and dictatorship and does not intend to seek new funds for reconstruction, it emerged yesterday.
Coming out:
Reuters: U.S. sees more Iraq fuel price rises, privatisation
BAGHDAD, Jan 4 (Reuters) - U.S. officials expect Iraq to make further cuts in subsidies that will generate more unpopular fuel price increases this year, and are also urging the new government to make a quick start on privatisation.
Translation: That’s your lot, pass the the gravy.

How are the “pro war” left going to explain this? Well we had a go you know, we ruined billions in infrastructure… but it was worth a try… let the Iraqis pay now I say we paid for the bombs didn’t we”… this was always going to happen
It’s true - and another depressing thing is the gap between this “pass the gravy” and the way even middle/centrist papers (The Guardian) represent it in their news coverage (as opposed to features and commentary)
