Rebalancing the system in favour of the victim

Here’s a little tip to cheer yourself up if England get beaten by Portugal this afternoon: Betfair are offering 4.4 on a Portugal win after 90 minutes. That’s a 17 quid payout on a five pound stake.

My bet’s on. If we get stuffed at least the commiseratory beers will buy themselves.

Update: Oh well. At least Doctor Who was less than mediocre for a change.

Update update: Or should that be more than mediocre? Either way, it was pretty ok.

Regrettably her indoors, AKA Mystic Meg tells me the 90 minute score will be 1-1 and Ingerlaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand go on to win 2-1.

However you can hedge with a small sum on Peter Hain being the next Prime Minister which I see stands at 55.

I’d recommend a little saver on Italy to beat Germany in 90 minutes. 4.0 at the moment on betfair.

I had a tenner on at Willy Hill’s for Portugal to win in 90 minutes and Murray to beat Roddick. £107 for a £10 stake seemed a pretty damn good return – not to mention my patriotic duty as a Scotsman to profit from England’s misery just as I profit from your Barnett-related largesse.

Never quite happened, of course, but it was quite useful when the large English gentlemen at the next table wanted to know why I didn’t seem to be entirely on their side…

  5. [...] H: In four tournaments, England have reached three quarter-finals. In four tournaments Portugal have reached a final and two semis. This wasn’t reflected in the respective prices, and hence value. [...]
