The Tories are subtly resorting to old form but in a new guise. Another example of what you highlighted is the claim that "we English won't accept a Scottish leader" (hidden behind the veil - or perhaps even cleverly underlined? - by Dave saying that he was against anti-Scottish prejudice). The bottom line is that the Tories don't have anything tangible to offer the country, Dave's strategy can be summed up in three words: "love me, please!", and they aren't going to win the next election at this rate.
