Iain Dale owes Tim Ireland an apology

See why here.

I’d quite like one as well, while you’re at it, Iain. For pretty much the same reason. Call it a two for one offer.

Isnt’t this blogging about blogging? Isn’t it just one big new media bubble? What’s the matter of substance here?

  2. Justin on 08.02.2007 at 11:19 Permalink | Reply

Dunno, mate. Maybe we should spread some lies and rumours about you and see how you like it.

So are you saying this guy’s like a Tory liar and has a media profile so much bigger than the worth of his pretty dreary weblog?

  4. Justin on 08.02.2007 at 11:39 Permalink | Reply

He has quite a large media profile. He’s often on the TV and radio and is a Tory A-lister who will probably be standing at the next General Election.

His weblog happens to be be one of the most widely read in the UK. And not just by bloggers. This isn’t just some incestuous circle jerk.

Yeah I knows him - I is just joshing with you Justin. I even got one of those Iain dale is a liar badges.

Both Iain and Guido have raised the profile of blogging more in the last year than Manic, with all of his campaigning, has managed in five (or however long he has been going).

I think that I can see why Tim might be mildly peeved by this, especially if he feels that they have done so unfairly…

I see. It’s a pissing competition, is that it? So it’s a jealously fuelled vendetta, is it? I’d have to see some evidence of that.

Still, if only Tim had hit on the idea of spreading lies, smears and fifth-rate gossip five years ago, the blogosphere would have been his oyster by now. I’m sure he’s kicking himself.

  9. Gus Abraham (22 comments.) on 08.02.2007 at 13:49 Permalink | Reply

True, and Guido does nothing for the old-media accusation that Bloggers are unattributeable gossip-sheisters.

    Spot on Justin.

Thanks to Iain for his breezy establishment tittle-tattle and to Guido for his breezy antiestablishment tittle-tattle.

Yeah Blogging has been greatly served.

The left is just pissed off that the bloggers who have succeeded are from the libertarian/right. They’re also miffed that they’re not discussing issues of “substance” and concern themselves with tittle tattle about loans for peerages and gross misconduct on the part of a Deputy Prime Minister.

One persons tittle tattle is anothers public interest and it is not for you or Tim “fascist” Ireland to decide.

  12. Justin on 08.02.2007 at 19:34 Permalink | Reply

Well, ‘Henry’, if you’d spent more than thirty seconds on this blog you’d have seen that I’ve also written ‘tittle tattle about loans for peerages and gross misconduct on the part of a Deputy Prime Minister’.

As have many other leftist blogs and with a damn sight more elan and wit than Paul Staines. You’ll have to clarify what you mean by ’succeeded’. If success means having a legion of racist and homophobic hangers-on then, yes, this blog has been an abject failure.

No, I’m pissed off because some prominent right wing bloggers seem incapable of debating anything without resorting to lies and smears. And then people like you clap like seals.

Nice ‘fascist’ crack, as well. Good to see satire isn’t completely dead on the Right. Tim does indeed have a lovely pair of black boots. And I think he was wearing a black shirt the last time I saw him. And he’s blonde.

    Blue eyes, too. Case closed.

(Is it just me, or are they finally starting to run out of new material?)

    Arf Arf.

It’s sad that Tim and Justin fail to understand what blogging is about for most people. They feel they have some sort of right to comment on what someone writes on their blog as if it has anything to do with them. Their wet dream is some form of blog licensing system, where “proper” political blogs discuss issues of weight and importance whereas mere tittle tattle is reserved for other appropriately labled and filed blogs. Of course, this is based on the premise that people like you and Tim get to decide what is and is not a proper topic for investigation and are in sole charge of nominating sacred cows immune from blog attack. That’s what I meant by fascist.

As for “lies and smears”, nobody cares, and certainly there’s not going to be any kind of redress. You have a go at Iain Dale for being a hypocrite, so what? What exactly does he owe you?

Well, I have to go clap like a seal in the comments sections of Biased BBC, Samizdata, Caroline Hunt, Devils Kitchen, Order-Order ect ect.

    Byeeeeee!

Tim: Yeah, it’s starting to sound like a whining version of ‘The Aristocrats’.

Henry: I’d have more time for you if what you say wasn’t refuted by clicking around this blog for five minutes. Still, why let the truth and evidence (do you have any?) derail your prejudices and intellectual shortcomings. Either that or you’re genuinely delusional.

Anyway, thanks for your illuminating contribution. Hurry back.

this would have a bit more credibility if you had written it somewhere other than the comments section of Justin’s blog.

    but only a bit.

Perhaps I was proving my own point? Or perhaps I just meant to say that I think it’s great that people allow comments, they should. I have a problem with some bloggers criticise the entire style and approach of another blogger, which Justin does.

Just out of interest, what counts as “success” for a blogger?

High traffic and advertising revenue, it seems. Personally, if I was interested in that, I’d ditch the blog and take a job as a salesman.

  20. Tim Ireland (120 comments.) on 09.02.2007 at 14:27 Permalink | Reply

Flying Rodent: Interestingly, big-noting yourself with inflated stats actually helps to generate genuine traffic… the impact on advertising revenue should be obvious.

Henry: This is not a matter of ’style’, as you well know.

  21. Henry on 09.02.2007 at 17:17 Permalink | Reply

High traffic means that Guido is a trusted resource. He doesn’t campaign really, he just investigates and reports. Of courst, Tim and Justin could do that if they wanted, it’s just that they have higher principles. Also, Guido is unique, there just isn’t anything like him on the net, but you can’t throw a stone without hitting some anti war lefty with an overactive conscience. I think the left is just annoyed that a few right wing/pro war/anti islamist/pro israel/free market/anti eu bloggers have overtaken the mooing herd of centerists in establishing a large online audience of opinion formers and political geeks.

I’m also sure that the left is just waiting until the right time to start its own internet TV station broadcasting five nights a week…Perhaps then he could broadcast his paranoid rantings about Iain Dale to the masses.

Then again, if I wanted to get the kind of content I find here, I could just buy The Independent

Henry - if that indeed is your real name and you are not some astro-turfer of wannabee hanger on - you are missing the point.

Honest political discourse through whatever medium depends on genuine debate and the right of challenge, be it the challenge to opinions, actions or statements that may be misleading. It’s difficult enough to have any meaningful political debate on serious questions or issues through the current accepted traditional mediums because there is so much spin and so many gatekeepers.

It was only a matter of time before the same people who want to control and mis-direst debate made a play to corral the political blogesphere.

And that’s what this is about. You, Henry, whoever you are, may or may not be a genuine member of the public with or without a political axe to grind on your own or someone else’s behalf. However, you won’t find yourself banned or prevented from commenting on blogs like this, Tims or similar sites. You won’t find yourself smeared and attacked for raising questions by teams of blogger groupies or ghost posters for having the temerity to raise questions or doubts about the points, opinions, actions, activities and interests of those you question.

It’s not necessarily a left/right thing - although that plays a part - its about free debate and honest discussion not tainted by the control freaks.

    Yours fraternally
