Fawked
Unity over at Ministry of Truth has uploaded Guido Fawkes’ Newsnight film to YouTube.
He makes some good points and asks worthy questions. It’s just a shame it was Guido asking them. It’s like Prince Harry lecturing someone about their drinking.
Here, making my YouTube debut, is the studio debate afterwards.
Share and enjoy.
It seems Michael White hurt Guido’s feelings somewhat and Britain’s most fearless blogger hit back this morning. Funny, he said Michael was ‘fantastic’ last night.
One can only imagine what Guido’s new visitors will make of his shiny, revamped website. He should have used the money he saved by not suing Tim Ireland, Sunny Hundal and me to pay for a website designer. It looks like he had a teenage nephew do it and makes Guido look like a bedroom fantasist.
What will sophisticated Newsnight viewers make of the commenters on his blog going by the handles of ‘homosexualist bummer‘ and ‘little black sambo‘? Or Guido’s biggest scoop this week: Gordon Brown picks his nose.
Paul Staines is 40.
Once again, blogging takes a shot in the arse. Why are self-appointed exemplars in any field invariably its worst exponents?
Update: Manic has a transcript of Guido’s pasting with a revelation of another example of Britain’s top blogger being ‘cavalier’ with the facts.

Maybe because they normally start with good intentions but once the lure of infamy comes running, they decide that the only way to keep at the top of the pile, a pile which of course is only in thier and their sidekicks heads,is to be more and more outrageous.
If they had any nous, they would stick to writing about things that matter, rather than thinking that by trying to subvert the MSM, they are somehow “hip”
They are in essence no better than those they sully. They become the elite and detached from the man in the street. They feel they have to wok alongside politaical party lines rather than thinking for themselves.
Sad really.

Heh, Paxo really does think that Guido is pathetic. I didn’t even watch everything and I heard that twice.
On the other hand, it did end up sounding a bit like the “normal” journalists ganging up on the new kid. I can’t say that Paxo was being particularly evenhanded in that debate.
Also, could anyone explain what that stuff about evenhandedness was all about and why Guido has a problem with it? It seemed utterly unrelated to what he was talking about – journos being cosy with the politicians – and entirely about wanting the BBC to be, what, not evenhanded? I caught something about having to be evenhanded but not having to do that yourself. What?
Forgive me if I’m being a bit dumb, but it rather sounded like an argument for party political TV – a la Fox.
Oh boy.
Guido went on there in order to level accusations at the MSM – but he was on the defensive from start to finish.
And he really can’t blame White or Paxman or anyone else. He was asked a fair question: what stories have you ever broken; and his response was to lie, followed by furious backpedalling when called on it, and finishing off by ratting on his sources. You can’t coach that.
He can’t even complain that White called him by his proper name (which might otherwise be a low shot), because he’d just boasted that White wouldn’t be able to recognise him if they had lunch in future.
And having the whole thing in the dark as if he’s MI6 or something – just beautiful.
It must be crushing for such a rampant egotist to give such a poor account of himself.
Some people can only type on the internet, and aren’t good at broadcasting. Most recognise their own limitations.
