Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity…

Quick nurse, the screens:

Prime Minister Tony Blair has told reporters he would be “delighted” if his child wanted to serve in Iraq.

I take it Blair means little Leo?

Well, they have three sons but with Euan frequenting the finest salons in Europe (that is, setting fire to tables in titty bars) and getting into Yale (he’s an exhibit to promote the university), I think we can be sure Tony didn’t mean him - he meant the spares, I think.

Absurd overstatement - no parent would be deilghted for their child to go.

Sorry, Justin - I meant that Leo will be fighting in Iraq when he’s Harry’s age, because we’ll still be there if Bush and Blair havfe anything to do with it.

Jesus Christ. He is actually a total madman. I wonder what his spawn thought of that.

I’d be delighted if my father went to Iraq.

Of course he’d be delighted. It would be a great propaganda coup for him, and he’d find it very helpful in countering criticisms from the families of serving soldiers who don’t share his enthusiasm for this war. It would be even better for him if one of them were killed there.

His statement only seems odd if you think he operates in the same moral and emotional universe as most of the rest of us. Based on what we’ve learned about his personality by watching him in office over the last 10 years, however, it’s completely comprehensible.

Perhaps when Tony leaves office, he will go and serve in Iraq…

    It’s a thought, eh?

I was rather hoping David Aaronovitch might like to volunteer.
