LOCAL ELECTION 2007 - BREAKING NEWS: Portslade falls - UPDATED
High drama here in Brighton as, in a classic pincer movement, the Tories have taken seats in both Portslade South and the not so nice Portslade North.
All hail our new Tory overlords! I’ve already been out on the street to welcome our conquerors and my partner is going to offer herself to their commandant this evening to try and ensure that we’re not treated too brutally by our new masters.
With the Greens taking the Regency ward, and if things stay the same, that means Labour lose Brighton.
Update 2.05pm: So far - Tories gain five, Greens three.
Update 3.20pm: And that’s it! It’s all over. I think you could call that a Right Hammering.

I wonder if anyone here actually remembers how shit Brighotn was the last time it was under a Tory administration.
That’s a very good point, William. I do, however, remember how shit Brighton’s been under Labour. It’s one of the rare occasions I’m with Burchill.
The Labour candidate who knocked on our door couldn’t give me anything more concrete than a warning not to vote Lib Dem.
My first ever trip to Brighton last June in a rented 67 MGB roadster for my chap’s birthday gave me the general impression that the town was run by students. Sorry.
And website designers, Katie. Don’t forget the website designers.
Seriously - who remembers Brighton under the Tories? I do and am upset by these results.
Whoever described North Portlade as’not so nice’ has obviously never lived or visited the place. North Portslade (Mile Oak) is a quiet suburb of Brighton and Hove, with a fascinating historical background and good/regular bus service into the city. Many of the homes (council and private) here back immediately onto the downs, and have beautiful views of the sea and coutryside. it’s got great schools and is a peaceful community. My kids and I love it here. What’s not so nice is that the Torys have just won a seat here - after years of being a staunch Labour area!!
Sorry Impish - only mucking about. My in-laws live in Mile Oak and very nice it is too. Just needs a decent pub. Although South Portslade only outdoes it by one - The Stanley.
