Triumph of the will
If you hurry you can catch the BBC having its very own Leni Riefenstahl moment.
Update 3.40: Jesus, the BBC coverage is awful. The amount of gushing going on you’d think Stephen Fry had died instead of some raddled war criminal announcing his retirement. I thought Nick Robinson was having an asthma attack he was so breathless.
At least they gave Armando Iannucci a whole 90 seconds for sake of balance.

It was sickening, you couldn’t pay to get a better party political broadcast. Maybe I was imagining it but I thought Huw Edwards was saying all the fluff through gritted teeth.
One point about the speech, where he said “But the blowback since, from global terrorism and those elements that support it, has been fierce and unrelenting and costly. For many, it simply isn’t and can’t be worth it.” Is that an admission that the war in Iraq increased the threat of terrorism?
I was particularly impressed with , “but if you think about it,……no,.. really think about it……” The quality of his bullshit has definitely dropped since Campbell left. He also appears to have completely lost the ability to speak in flowing sentences. I don’t think it’s an affectation any more.
I really liked the ‘No… really think about it’ bit. They say Blair’s a good actor but Keanu Reeves could have delivered that line in a more convincing fashion.
I still maintain that he talks… like… that… so all the journalists can get it down in their shorthand and record his guff for the ages. SO THAT IT WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.

As in : ‘Woah, dudes - you owe me for being, like, the big kahuna for the last ten years… and now I’m, like, I’m so outta here. I have to back to the Source and spend more time with my guitar.’
