The devil came to Whitehaven
Looks like Whitehaven in Cumbria might be at the epicentre of the upcoming house price implosion:
The BBC has appointed Capita to deliver the first digital switchover help scheme.
The company will provide support to residents of Whitehaven in Cumbria, which will become the first town to switch off the analogue signal this October.
It will go one of two ways after the analogue signal is switched off. Apoplectic soap opera and reality TV-starved Whitehavians will storm Crapita’s offices and burn the executives in a huge wicker high definition television.
Or Whitehaven will become an oasis of tranquility, culture and refinement as the residents are forced to turn to books, board games and blogging for their entertainment.
Like an exchange of nuclear weapons, it should be interesting to watch. From a distance.

As a Cumbrian I feel it is far more likely that we will simply entertain ourselves by throwing beer cans at dolphins in the harbour.
As a ‘Whitehavenian’ or ‘Marra’ as we like to call outselves, and a former Postman I feel the majority will be safe from the switchoff - The amount of Sky magazines I had to deliver each week shows nearly everyone has digital capabilities.
Full credit to the digital fatcats through, they have built a perfect eyesore on Whitehaven’s historic harbour to count down the 6 months until the switch off until the second
