A period of silence would be welcome

So, which one will you go for, ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows‘ or ‘Alastair Campbell and the Deathlessly Hollow‘?

Both books are identical in many respects. They each feature fantastical plots requiring a massive suspension of disbelief from the reader. Both are huge, self-indulgent tracts - desperately in need of an editor - which must be carefully sifted for anything of interest.

And both stories revolve around an increasingly petulant and self-absorbed would-be martyr character of dubious talents and a fascination for the dark arts.

The only difference between the two books seems to be that, in Campbell’s story, we already know which character dies near the end.

I’d go for Harry Potter. I’ll happily read Campbell’s book one day but I have no intention of lining that dreadful Man’s pockets. I’ll get it second hand on eBay. (I’ll give it a fortnight before they start appearing).

I got Lance Price’s effort at a car boot sale for something like 20p. I’ll wait for Alastair’s to appear in similar circumstances and then lay it up in case there’s ever a run on lavatory paper.

And, like Harry Potter, this is just the first in an ongoing series, too, apparently - so you’ll want to make sure you have a spare shelf for future volumes.

    I can hardly wait.

No all this talk of the dark arts , wizardry and the battle of good over evil leaves me cold. I`ll stick with something a little more believable. Its Harry for me..
