A ‘new’ politics #6

Imagine you’re fighting two wars. Neither of them seems to being going very well unfortunately. Cock-ups, conspiracies and downright childlike incompetence masquerading as malice have managed to serve up a bloody banquet of bugger all.

You’re losing the media war as well. Stories of your cock-ups, conspiracies and downright childlike incompetence masquerading as malice are rife.

So, what are you to do? Roll up your sleeves, stamp out the cock-ups, debunk the conspiracies and evict the downright childlike incompetence masquerading as malice? Nah. Why bother when you can just choke off the sources of tales of your amateurism? If it’s not in the papers, who cares?

Sorted.

Yup. Waiting for the actual text of the Defence Information Notice to check the precise rules - given the nature of this mendacious weaselry, it is more than mildly amusing that I found out about it from Tim’s blog. Looks like I am going to have to apply for permission, not just to blog (which will rather dampen the whole point of being anonymouse) but to speak at day-job conferences, play online games, or post anywhere, even if it has nothing to do with defence.

Never mind “using official defence experience” - what are they going to do? Degauss my head every time I walk out of a base main gate?

You’re right on the MOD fighting and losing on a number of fronts.

In Afghanistan the resistance is especially keen to send British servicemen home in boxes since there is a perception that the country has already forcibly ejected British imperialists on three previous occasions. They just don’t seem to have learned their lesson and in hitching their skirts up with the biggest bully on the block the British military sought to slake its thirst for revenge on its Pashtun adversaries of these previous wars.

Quite obviously as they vacate the occupation zone in Afghanistan in utter military disarray the British are reluctant to admit the scale of their fourth defeat at the hands of Pathun tribesmen.

No letters or emails home boys!Stiff upper lip at a premium now lads!

And of course it’s a similar situation in Iraq where morale is rock bottom and we try to vacate the occupation zone while still maintaining a shred of dignity. The military disarray(not to mention the moral one shared at home with pro-quisling bloggers and their ludicrous petitions!)is manifest.

Will we admit we were wrong to help the US in its abject project to dominate the region and are now paying the price?

I think we’ll far more likely take up the case of the brave quislings who supported our ill-fated efforts at Empire.

Sad,really to see a nation in such a state of denial.Sad but not at all surprising. It’s obviously not easy for such an anally-retentive nationality as the British to look themselves in the mirror and see the hypocrisy that’s writ large there in our reflection.
