Back

Back after the blip of the last couple of days. I exceeded my bandwidth, not as any measure of popularity - my visitor statistics wouldn’t massage a gnat’s ego let alone one that needs constant buffing like mine - but because the site’s being bombarded by search engine crawlers again. Just had to wait for November 1 to tick over when my monthly bandwidth limit was reset.

So anyway, yes. Back.

You have a restricted bandwidth server? Good lord…

Well, to be honest, my ego never let me countenance the eventuality that it would be a problem.

Your modesty, dear boy, knows no bounds. And also makes me feel slightly sick…

Come on, who in their right mind would think my semi-coherent gubbins could drink 10GB of bandwidth? It’s madness.

What is it with these search engine chappies? I went over my limit as well, despite having even fewer visitors than you (and I think we’re on the same hosting package, if I recall) - is October mating season for the buggers or something?

Try the bad behavior plugin. It blocks spam harvesters/crawlers. I use it on wordpress but it works on other platforms.
    Just Google for ‘Bad Behavior’

Nice one. I’ve got it installed and I’m giving it a look. Thanks for that.

    That was quick.
I’m still evaluating it but I have noticed fewer crawlers.
It’s false positives I’m worried about but it seems to have a pretty good reputation.
