More shared values

Anyway, another one of Britain’s favourite bastards comes to town tomorrow. Pervez Musharraf doesn’t meet with Gordon Brown until Monday so we can only surmise he’ll be spending Saturday and Sunday chucking around hard cash in Harrods and Fortnum & Mason. How he must hug himself when he thinks of how far he’s come.

‘One upon a time,’ he must muse, ‘I was just some poor schlub with a massive army backing me up, now I’m the bullet-proof figurehead for a coalition of Western interests who can’t let me be toppled no matter how big a bastard I am for fear of who might replace me. Yes, life is sweet.’

On Saturday (26th January), Amnesty International is taking to the streets with a demonstration outside Downing Street. The event is being led by lawyers in support of their colleagues in Pakistan and starts at noon.
