Lose yourself in London

It’s not for me to comment on the London mayoral election. Not living in the capital, it’s got nowt to do with me.

One thing though. If Boris Johnson does get voted in on Thursday, a law should be passed immediately prohibiting Londoners from making jokes about George W Bush. Only fair, I think.

I’m planning to make some “don’t blame me, I voted for Ken” badges for non-idiot Londoners to wear when they venture to the provinces…

Why should you lot suffer? Simply electronically tagging Boris voters should suffice.

Whatever happens in the vote, it’s lucky that we Londoners have the fair and balanced reporting of the Evening Standard to help us make a well-informed choice. I wonder what’s in it today? Hm, let’s see. Page 1, Boris surges ahead in Evening Standard poll. Page 2, Ken admits he might lose, by our correspondent Andrew Gilligan. Page 3, Ken considers life after office. Page 4, Suicide bombers support Ken. Page 12, Comment by Andrew Gilligan: Ken must go. Page 13, Comment by Simon Jenkins: No mayor should have more than two terms. Page 13, Leader comment: Londoners want a change. Pages 15-16, Special Feature by Andrew Gilligan: How Ken let hardcore Trots take over City Hall…

I personally very much hope that, should Ken be victorious on Thursday, his revenge against the Standard will be swift, vindictive and unpleasant to watch. London wouldn’t be any worse a place if street venders sold little bags of dogshit on every corner instead of than that rag.

Oh it’s Thursday, is it? Marvellous, I shall be flying into London next day and it will be full of celebrating Tories. Fuck.

Could you unleash a well-aimed toilet flush, Justin? You might splatter a couple of braying toffs, as well as delivering a metaphor for the fates of Londoners should the berk of the parish win.

I’m torn with the London elections. I don’t live in London. I spend most of my life being annoyed by London media and it’s ability to focus 99.9% of its time on London.

Then again – imagine the shame of having to explain to people overseas that your capital city’s mayor got the job because he acted like a twat on panel shows and yes, he really did call black people that etc.

So..on that basis I do hope Ken wins. It says a lot about him that despite the whole New Labour debacle and people like me saying they would never vote Labour again – well, I’d still vote Ken.

So notwithstanding the fact that Ken supports Ian Blair’s policy of summary execution on suspicion alone, or the fact that he rejoined the War & Torture Party, or that Pappy Blair and Alistair ‘Fuckyou’ Campbell have been advising our Ken on his campaign, you still think he represents anything other than the corporatist nightmare New Labour have foisted on us? It’s very sad really – I have always had a soft spot for Ken, and was very pleased for him in 2000 when he won. He lost my vote when he rejoined New Labour. He earned my utter condemnation when he supported the rogue Ian Blair against the no confidence motion brought by the GLA. New Labour are a clear and present threat to this country and what little freedom we have left, and they need to be destroyed (instantly, utterly) in any way possible.

(The buses are better though, I’ll grant Ken that.)

Yes – for all that, I don’t want the Tory jerk to win. The world is not here to give Boris Johnson everything he wants on a plate.

    Still, it’s worse in Rome.

Incidentally I wonder whether the Standard has spent much time discussing the charge-sheet here?
