    turnout at 45%…absolutely bloody terrible for democracy.

    Substantial increase on last time and an even bigger increase from the first time. So while it’s still low, it’s bloody high for a non-General election and much better than it has in the past been.

    Also proves the reformists point that contested elections increase turnout—people thought this one would be close, not a foregone conclusion, so actually bothered.

    Given that the odds of any individual vote actually mattering in a vote that big is infinetismal, that as many as they did turned out confounds a lot of polling theory. I’m happy, and hope it’ll go up again in 4 years.

      Yeah, the post’s gone from her site. It was a picture of Boris with the caption of ‘For when Dame Shirley Porter is not enough’. Made me laugh anyway.
