“turnout at 45%…absolutely bloody terrible for democracy.”
Substantial increase on last time and an even bigger increase from the first time. So while it’s still low, it’s bloody high for a non-General election and much better than it has in the past been.
Also proves the reformists point that contested elections increase turnout—people thought this one would be close, not a foregone conclusion, so actually bothered.
Given that the odds of any individual vote actually mattering in a vote that big is infinetismal, that as many as they did turned out confounds a lot of polling theory. I’m happy, and hope it’ll go up again in 4 years.

D-Notice’s latest blog post… Oh fuck!
Yeah, the post’s gone from her site. It was a picture of Boris with the caption of ‘For when Dame Shirley Porter is not enough’. Made me laugh anyway.
[EDITED: Let's try and keep this slightly entertaining if we can't keep it civil, eh? Let's try and elevate it above 'X is a fucking Y'. Also, if you're going to leave comments under varying aliases, remember that I can see your IP address and know that you're the same person. Sock puppets be gone from this place.]
Many thanks for the link Justin. I don’t think I was prepared for people actually reading it
