Hysterical outrage roundup

Mmmmmm. Is there a daintier dish than jerked right-wing knee? The Bishop of Stafford writes an article about climate change and rather unwisely uses Joseph Fritzl as an example of human selfishness. Watch the right-wingers hitch up their skirts and squeal like the housekeeper in the Tom and Jerry cartoons.

It could be argued what the Bishop said took the argument to the acceptable limits of taste. So. without further ado, let he who is without sin cast the first stone…

Here’s Andrew Ian Dodge getting high and mighty. Is it only a year since Andrew was calling supporters of the EU ‘federasts’? You know I rather think it is.

Here’s poor widdle Wonko, he of measured and tasteful Labour = Nazis logo fame, parading his bruised sensibilities exhorting us to join his letter writing campaign of complaint.

Here’s the never knowingly out-outraged Iain Dale, past master of the mass murder and Dachau jokes, getting uppity.

Here’s Devil’s Kitchen momentarily setting aside his not-at-all-disproportionate ’socialists are evil/Nazis/cunts’ schtick to direct his Anglo-Saxon bludgeon at the Bishop. Poor Devil, whatever happened to ‘it is always fun being offensive to deeply unpleasant, vicious people’? It’s only fun if you’re not on the receiving end, that’s what.

The fact is they all think beyond-the-pale insults are fun for all the family until they’re turned on their own apparently delicate and so very easily bruised sensibilities. What’s the matter, lads? Cat got your swastika, death camp and federast/pederast jokes? Tell us another one about how us lefties are just like those blokes who murdered the Jews. Go on.

I posted yesterday because I was uncomfortable with the analogy. I am not a climate change sceptic but myself and my family have adjusted our own behaviour - the kids (5 and 3) recycle, we use public transport where we can in our rural part of Scotland &c. However, I felt that this comment ill-served the general environmental argument. The responses you highlight are worth noting - but the unfortunate element here is that the Bishop played into their hands: a further rhetorical argument while they ignore the science.

Oh, I agree completely. He really didn’t do us any favours. I think the Bishop both chose an awful analogy and underestimated his own power for inducing shame in people.

That said, anyone sane can see that however misguided his choice of words he was trying to appeal to a sense of compassion rather than rain hellfire down on the unbelievers.

And here I am, an athiest, defending a bishop from right-wing boilerplate. Again. Bloody bishops.

The Bishop is doing a good job because he has taken on that extreme right wing thesis: “I will do what makes me happy, and if that causes others to suffer, hard luck.”

More power to his elbow! I don’t think he needs to be defended, and if he is causing those twats to feign outrage, he’s got the tone just right.

Sometimes, I wonder at you people, I really do.

I wasn’t particularly outraged by the Bishop’s stupid comments, as it happens. He was just being an utter arsehole and, as such, deserved a kicking.

Comparing those who question an as yet not even nearly proven theory based on computer models (several of which have been proved to be wrong or inaccurate) with someone who locked his daughter in a cellar and repeatedly raped her over the course of 24 years is not only disproportionate, but actively stupid.

      DK

P.S. All lefties are Commies and want to kill or imprison poor people, hippies, homosexuals, cripples and dissidents. Happy now, Justin?

Ah, I see. I wondered why you only used ‘cunt’ five times and ‘fuck’ or ‘fucking’ 11 times in your blog post about the bishop. That was you being reserved. Clearly we should have expected much more had you been ‘particularly outraged’.

You’ve got balls lecturing other people on being actively stupid.

Do you understand what writing in character means, Justin? And if you think that’s me being outraged then…

What’s happened to you of late? You appear to have had a sense of humour bypass.

I take it, then, that the Bishop dissents from his boss’s position on saving lives by means that make Christians unhappy.

Oh, Philip. Look not to a bishop for consistency. What does your inner Fritzl tell you? Look to him and do the opposite.

No doubt it will come out at Fritzl’s trial that he had a second cellar where he liked to cross-breed species for kicks.

In fairness to Mr Kitchen, I wouldn’t say that the general charge of dishing it out and not taking it sticks. Pigdogfucker in particular has made something of a specialty of handing him his plated arse, and he generally accepts it with good grace.

Obviously, the same doesn’t go for Dale or the others.

Which makes it merely a massive coincidence that he hasn’t rocked up on any other post of mine before now to accuse me of a sense of humour failure, yes?

No - I’m not defending him in this instance. Obviously him calling the Bishop on his “child-like analogy and infantile lack of subtlety” suggests, ahem, a sub-optimal level of self-awareness.

I’m just saying that, in general, he’s takes being called a cunt better than many do. Which is just as well really…

Not strictly a scientific observation, but why do blogs on the right - ranging from the centre to the lunatic fringe - tend to have comment boxes filled with the bilious, the deranged, and the damaged? You can almost smell the fumes from the bile they spill into them.

Writing in character? I really fail to see how the “but no one understands me, I was really being nice I was guv” defence works here. It seems, as I’ve long suspected, that DK dishes it out but can’t take it.

They certainly don’t like it up ‘em.

Because by and large they’re talking about people and things they know little or nothing about. And because the right have a propensity to hysteria when they don’t think they’re going to get their way.

Very much like the school playground. Same level of simplistic debating skills; same use of language, name calling etc.; same tantrums and dummy spitting; same level of gormlessness; same herd like mentality; same displays of mardyness.

I bet they all grow up (physically, not mentally) to be managers.

Ok then. If I have to spell this out to the hard of thinking.

This is neither about swearing or right-wing politics, it’s about idiocy. You’ll find that this blog is peppered with the former and one of my favourite blogs (Eugenides) is entirely the latter.

It’s strange but nobody from your neck of the woods ever pops round to accuse me of ’self-destructive’ hypocrisy when I’m slagging off New Labour or lefties - even though this blog is a monument of hypocrisy or at least massive inconsistency.

Chris Mounsey never accused me of a sense of humour failure until I looked in his direction, even though I’m known to take things massively seriously all the time. Why is that? I think I know but how about you?

All in all, I look at some of you lot and I think… Withnail.
