Links and stuff between June 12th and June 13th
Just what tickled my fancy between June 12th and June 13th:
- The end is nigh… - The four horsemen of the cultural apocalypse and their two attendants…
- The Weblog of Austin Mitchell: Flipping Forty Two - 'I voted with the government on 42 day detention. I didn?t like myself for it.' You weren't the only one, Austin. We didn't like you much for it either.
- The Daily Mash - MILLIONS PLANNING £3000 'I'M A TERRORIST' SCAM - 'With the government offering generous compensation to anyone held without charge for more than 28 days, enterprising Britons are already getting up to speed with key Jihadist phrases.'

The Daily Mash provides the most convincing argument yet why it’s got to be 42 days. Most people get 4 weeks hols (28 days). 42 days will put off anyone in full time work.
Actually, that does sort of convince. Say six weeks, minus six weekends (because those don’t count against your allowance). So that’s 30 days (unexplained) absence from work. Not an easy thing to incorporate into your life, and hence an effective sanction / unofficial punishment.
Er, when I said “convincing” there was just a slight touch of irony in my comment. Do we really live in an age where anyone will believe just about everything?
