Who says God doesn’t have a sense of humour

Christian Voice director faces bankruptcy.

Stephen Green’s crusade against Jerry Spinger - The Opera leads him to financial ruin. The self-appointed guardian of our morals is now throwing himself on the mercy of those people whose careers he tried to ruin.

In a hearing a fortnight ago, Mark Thompson and Jonathan Thoday were awarded costs totalling £90,000 against Green, who is the National Director of the prayer and lobby group Christian Voice. The BBC’s solicitors were awarded £55,000 and Olswangs Solicitors, who acted for Thoday, got an order for £35,000.

The money is due to be paid today, but Stephen Green doesn’t have it.

He has written to both Mark Thompson and Jonathan Thoday inviting them to waive their costs in the interests of goodwill and justice.

Goodwill and justice. You have to laugh. You know as licence payers, we tolerate all kinds of crud being vomited from the corporation, all in the knowledge that there are diamonds amongst the pavement pizza that is most of the output. But I’d rather see toss like Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps…’s life extended indefinitely than see this chiselling, vexatious, sanctimonious little turd see a penny of my money.

There’s probably a parable in here somewhere. Something involving the widow’s mite and the turning of cheeks perhaps. And maybe brass necks and huge balls. Goodwill and justice? Here’s one for you Mr Green: Luke 4:23.

After he blackmailed that charity into refusing a JS:TO donation I seem to recall him cheerfully asserting that god would intervene and make up the difference - presumably he’s sat at home awaiting a cheque from the big man?

Yeah - as one of the priests suggested in that episode of Father Ted where their plane’s going to crash: “Maybe we could just have a bit of a pray?”

Wonderful news! If Mr Green would like to reflect on the impact his crusade had on the individuals he pursued, he’d do well to watch Stewart Lee’s excellent ’90s Comedian’ DVD, in which Mr Lee talks about what he did to recover from having four years’ work shot down by a fundamentalist bigot.

Better still, Luke 6:37 - “Judge not, and ye shall not be judged”

      Better yet, Ezekiel 23:20.

Wow. The bible really does have everything, doesn’t it?
