What constitutional roles does the C of E play in investigating high-ranking political appointees? What role does the appointing party play in investigating high-ranking political parties.

To be fair to the C of E, its not that easy to investigate the Mr Lewis. He did run off the the Windward Islands and has shown an Archeresque tendency to re-create reality to suit his needs.

Sorry, I didn't mean political parties - I meant other groups. If the Church of England has got so much dirt on Lewis, why didn't they investigate him before? Why didn't they find out what happened when the original accusations were made? What right have they got to complain about Boris not investigating someone who had complaints made about them when he was a vicar in the 1990's?

It's all just a smokescreen to cover for their own incompetence. I have no desire to see taxpayers' money used to investigate Lewis when the chance to assess his guilt was passed up by the Church of England.

What Justin said. Which external parties are going to scrutinise Father Ted Lewis, then?

I suspect that Boris dropped the investigation because he let Ray Lewis drop him in the shit and doesn't want any more revelations coming out.

I suspect that Boris dropped the investigation because Ray Lewis has quit to clear his own name instead - why would Boris need to investigate someone who is currently being scrutinised by external parties?
