Salty Dogs

Ever since I read Swag by Elmore Leonard 15 years ago, I’ve always wanted to try the Salty Dog as drunk by Ernest Stickley, Jr. Tonight, I finally got the chance.

Bless us, O Lord, and these, Thy gifts.

Blogging may be light for a while before tailing off to non-existent when my liver fails some time in the next fortnight.

When I first got into Bukowski I kept having chasers with everything and my life fell apart.

Also, I can’t be the only one to have an Alan Partridge ‘Lady Boy’ of beer, gin and tonic and a Baileys?

    That sounds great.

I eat at least one grapefruit a day – addicted to ‘em, so this sounds right up my street!

On the rare occasions when Artie, Larry Sanders’ producer, drank it was always a Salty Dog. Or a bucket of them.

My (surprisingly perky today, considering) liver says ‘hi’ back to yours, mate.

Sadly, I could only get a grapefruit juice “nectar” (60%) in Tallinn – but it’s almost there, and I have a fresh grapefruit to squeeze in to boost the flavour (but not perfect).

Otherwise, good Russian Vodka, Lime, and salt are all present.

It’s very good, and promises awesome things if I can get a juicer here. Thanks J.

Salt rimming with a garnish lime wedge, it sounds positively uncomfortable and not exactly sanitary.

Salt rimming with a garnish lime wedge sounds to me like something done on the high seas to avoid scurvy. Uncomfortable perhaps, but certainly more sanitary than the usual business of waiting bent over like Tom the cabin boy while the captain primed his mates.

When you sober up, can we have the “recent comments” function back?
