With the global economy in the toilet and the environment not far behind it, might it be worth someone checking to see if the world’s richest bastards are building a fleet of rockets in the Australian desert?

      Definitely Elton’s best. I re-read it quite recently and it’s aged really quite well.

    What on earth happened to Ben Elton, incidentally? I had a look at one of his books recently (“Past Mortem”, I think) and it was some of the most unpleasant stuff I’ve ever read. Like Irvine Welsh, but without the redeeming sense of humour. And he’s writing cash-in musicals with Tim Rice.

    Well if they are going to build a fleet of rockets they’d better get their fingers out of their arses and their brains out of neutral because, having consumed the working classes and the middle classes, the financial shit is flying rapidly their way given some of the sob stories to be found here:
