Dave Dee
I remember hearing this on Jimmy Savile’s Old Record Club when I was a kid and thinking it was the most amazing thing ever. Finding it on the jukebox in the student union when I was at poly was a thrill. Me and mates took it on ourselves to torture the rest of the spotty herberts with it…
Bye Dave. ‘If Music Be the Food of Love… Prepare for Indigestion’ has to be one of the finest album titles of all time.

Agreed – one of the most remarkable hit singles of all time. I was around at the time, but don’t recall hearing it then – it would have been a few years later.
(By the way, that clip reminds me why I hated TOTP2: the clever-clever captions all over the place, truncated clips and St*v* f*ck*ng Wr*ght).

Not bad, but did you ever hear The Fall’s version?
“Bend it” by the same band, was the first single my mum bought for me. It was a birthday present with my first portable record player
Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Titch were one of the most innovative ever. Interesting that their accents were so pronounced when they sang.

Another sad rock death here.
If you have a taste for such things, there’s Joe Meek’s utterly bizarre “Message To Dave And Dee”, which consists of Meek reciting, over a soft and romantic piano backing, a list of reasons why Dave is such a lovely young chap but you’d need to keep an eye on certain other members of the band. It’s somewhere between hilarious and horribly creepy. There may be a copy here -
