Tony McNulty’s silver lining
There’s a round in the amusing satirical gameshow, Argumental, where the comedians have to defend one side of an argument and then, at the sound of a buzzer, immediately switch to argue the opposite.
They should get the egregious Department of Work and Pensions minister Tony McNulty on. The former Hammer of the Refugee turned Hammer of the Poor has been caught claiming thousands in expenses on his parents’ home nine miles from Parliament. He lives with his wife three miles from Parliament.
Here he is spreading the blame…
Mr McNulty said: ‘There are senior Shadow frontbench figures who live five miles further away from Westminster than me who claim the lot …’ before quickly adding: ‘… and that is entirely appropriate.’
It’d go down a storm on Argumental…
Look at these Tories bleeding the the taxpayer. What bunch of piss-taking bastards… *BUZZ!* …and that, of course, is how it should be.
It’s completely above board of course, these things always are. The difference between being right and being moral has always been a careful calculation in all of New Labour’s thought processes.
You only have to look at what prompted McNulty to finally stop claiming the expenses in January this year. Was it conscience? Was it shame? Was it heck…
Mr McNulty stopped claiming the allowance in January because interest rates had fallen so much that he could afford to pay the mortgage from his MP’s salary.
Fancy that. What’s more impressive, do you think? The size of McNulty’s cojones or the fact that there’s someone, somewhere, thankful for New Labour’s crappy handling of the economy?

Tony McNulty is a joke! He has failed to live up to the spirit of the rules and taken every opportunity to manipulate the system to his advantage. God help us for having such public servants who are NOT squeaky clean. Tony McNulty is hardly ever at Harrow East surgeries, takes anywhere between 3- 6 months to give appointments to meet constituents and then either fails to turn up or cancels appointments with very little notice. This bloke doesn’t use his parent’s Harrow Residence for Parliamentary duties. Shame on you Tony for not saying sorry and for NOT returning the money you have unjustly over-claimed – it’s people like you that bring this country to it’s economic knees. Very very bad judgment on your part!
Employment Minister teaches country how to Fiddle Expenses to the detriment of Employer and country
The government has shoveled £100 billion into the pockets of bankers and people get worked up over piddling little sums of money like this? The mediocrity of British political corruption disappoints me. When you look at the pathetic properties these MPs fiddle money to buy it depresses me that they don’t possess more ambition. Why don’t we see them living in palatial mansions? Well, apart from Lord Mandelson, who at least knows how to act with style.
I think it is more likely that McNulty didn’t actually decide to stop claiming in January. Assuming he claims quarterly, he has probably only claimed up to the end of December anyway. Having been rumbled by the Mail, he just decided not to claim any more.
