That substantial New Labour campaign strategy in full

To describe New Labour policies as ‘back of a fag packet’ has, up until now, been a metaphor for their seemingly dashed-off-in-minutes nature, their paucity of ideas and passion. (Plus they make you feel dizzy and nauseous. And give you cancer)

Who knew that when it came to the party’s European and local election campaign strategy, it could actually, literally be written on the back of a fag packet. Here’s John Prescott whining about New Labour’s pisspoor campaigning

I kept asking the party what was the strategy, what was our message, what was the campaign? I became so concerned I actually wrote to Harriet [Harman]. Her reply was less than satisfactory. These apparently were the ‘messages.’

For the many v for the few
Grow your way out v cut your way out
On your side v on your own
Substantial leadership v insubstantial salesmanship

And that was it.

And that was it. To think they had the guts to use the word ’substantial’.

The back of a fag packet analogy is wrong.

There’s no passive smoking in pubs, but people still whinge about MPs and their policies. Besides which, children are protected from smoking until they are 18. No such laws have yet been put into place about our politicians, unfortunately.

Although I like the notion that the labour party have ‘leadership’. Good job they told me, I wouldn’t have guessed otherwise…

Fighting for their own (substantial) necks instead of fighting for the country. At least Prescott has the Northern bluntness to speak out rather than spin for personal gain.

Just goes to show you what a yawning conceptual gulf has existed at the heart of the Blair/Brown regime. When they resort to this kind PR-soundbite policy – between senior party figures! – then you know that they never really connected with the real problems of ordinary lives as they are lived. Still, banker and investment managers are doing all right, eh? They must be giggling with delight at the propect of a Tory government.

Presumably the things that New Labour stands for on that list are all on the right hand side (both literally and politically)?

Clearly time to tell Mr Brown to go:

The entire world is affected by the downturn. Fine if you think that Labour is responsible for the global downturn across the planet, but most people are aware that Gordon Brown does not have the power to balls things up for the entire world.

The point is that the entire world is on a downturn due to the widespread use of the vodoo economics of Neo-libralism – to which most “mainstream” parties, along with the rag tag neandrathal smaller right-wing parties, subscribe to. This includes New Labour.

No wonder the majority of people are disenfranchised to the point of not bothering to vote. A 35% turnout says it all. If ever a proper left of centre alliance got its act together we’d see who the real majority are across these islands.
